New cloud solutions platform to support Hart District Council

Cloud solutions approach will promote paperless and mobile working and the citizens of Hart District Council will be able to receive improved service

Hart District Council has selected Arcus Global, a cloud solutions provider for the public sector, to deliver its Planning and Regulatory Services through the Arcus Global platform, to improve internal processes as well as to provide a better citizen experience. The council serves a population of just over 91,000 in around 37,000 households.

The five-year contract procured through G-Cloud 10, will see Hart District Council overhaul its existing legacy application in favour of a scalable end to end cloud solution that will cover all areas of Planning and Regulatory Services, delivering major improvements for staff and residents alike.

Matthew Saunders, Business and Facilities Manager at Hart District Council said: “We are currently undergoing a review of our legacy systems, and decided we needed a cloud based platform that could help with our wider business transformation and be the first stepping stone in our new digital strategy.

“We selected Arcus Global as it is the most flexible solution to suit our needs. It is intuitive so minimal training is needed, and most importantly we feel we can make a real difference in the future for the Council.”

The digital revamp of the existing legacy application is a welcome development since a recent study from Citrix found that four in five (80 percent) local authorities still access and manage citizen data on-premises. According to Richard Blanford, CEO of Fordway, one of the main reasons behind this slow adoption is because cloud is significantly more difficult for local authorities to implement than central Government.

Delivering first class citizen services

The new Arcus Global platform will include open APIs so it can integrate with all systems across the council, enabling deeper insights. Also, being cloud-based means that the system can be accessed anywhere on any device. Great for when staff are working remotely.

Saunders added: “We are keen to adopt a paperless and mobile working culture so this new platform will encourage this. Our staff will access the system online so discourages old paper based ways and they will make live updates in the field, instead of coming back to the office so this will make great efficiency savings.”

Denis Kaminskiy, Chief Executive Officer at Arcus Global commented: “We are excited to help Hart District Council in its wider transformation strategy. The new platform will enable a more efficient working environment for staff but also allow the citizens a better customer experience. The Arcus solution is easy to use and instead of chasing with calls, individuals can log into a portal for real time updates and also be sent communication notifications as they happen.”

Derek Thompson, VP of EMEA, Dell Boomi shares his recommendations on how can councils connect software, systems and people, uniting legacy IT with cutting-edge cloud technology to deliver first class citizen services.

The UK government is providing guidance on using cloud solutions tools safely. Templates and legal documents to help buy and supply G-Cloud services on the Digital Marketplace are also provided.
