Alison McKenzie-Folan, Deputy Chief Executive, Director Customer Transformation, Wigan Council

Alison is hugely respected across local government circles and puts digital transformation at the heart of everything she does. She has built an organisation that advocates Digital by Default in everything the Council wants to achieve and created an environment that allows women to thrive in leadership positions within a culture of respect and collaboration.

Alison’s drive and determination to initiate change and exploit technology to revamp and refresh Council services was a major influencer in Wigan Council achieving the status of LGC Digital Council of the year, an award she is proud of and uses the achievements of the Council to engage with other authorities in a trusted advisor capacity, driving benefits across public sector services for hundreds of thousands of UK residents consuming services.

Alison is also a major advocate of new and emerging tech such as AI and Robotics and actively drives colleagues to find meaningful exploitation of emerging tech in areas such as assistive living (where the Council has built a state of the art proof of concept for demonstrating the capability to other public-sector bodies).

Widely liked, admired and respected, Alison is a great example of how women are driving change in government exploiting technology to drive improvements and cost reduction.
