Council partnership brings digital skills training to young people

Young people hoping to pursue a digital career are being given a unique training and development opportunity

Young people hoping to pursue a digital career are being given a unique training and development opportunity, thanks to a new link-up between Nottinghamshire County Council, Dijitul and six local businesses.

The Digital Enhancement Programme (DEP) is a new pilot initiative, offering six-month placements with local companies in digital roles, offering on-the-job training and skills in:

  • Digital marketing
  • Making websites user-friendly and more accessible
  • Search-engine optimisation
  • Using AdWords and social media

Mansfield-based digital specialists Dijitul is delivering the project on behalf of the County Council. It will provide a full induction programme ahead of the placement starting, as well as on-going support to both the trainee and business from industry experts. Further, welfare-related support will be provided by Inspire Community Learning and Skills Service.

The trainees will receive an allowance during the placement. They will complete it equipped with the skills and knowledge to take up an apprenticeship or full time job.

Placements at businesses taking part in the DEP are available at a number of locations across Nottinghamshire.

Applications for the placements are open now. Further information and an application form is available from www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/apprenticeships

Councillor Kay Cutts, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “The digital sector is an increasingly important one and will only continue to grow. It is important that we have a skilled workforce, ready to meet that demand and seize the attractive opportunities that a career in the digital sector provides.

“As well as equipping trainees with the skills and knowledge they need, the local companies taking part in the scheme will benefit from the development of a digital strategy to boost their online and social media presence, which will help to attract new customers and sales in the process.”
