Stockport Council is to host a Hackathon this coming weekend that it’s hoped will help Stockport residents discover and connect with their community.

The event, which takes place on Saturday 4 March, is open to anyone who is enthusiastic and creative, not just those with digital skills, but you do need to be over 16. Participants can form their own teams or the organisers will team you up with others.

The Hack will take place from 9am to 9pm and all participants will be given the opportunity to present their ideas in front of their peers and a panel of judges. There are great prizes for the winners and gifts for all those who take part. Food and drink will be provided but participants need to bring their own technical equipment.

Councillor David Sedgwick, Executive Member for Reform and Governance at Stockport Council said: “We hope to draw on the enormous resource of skill and creativity that exists in Stockport and harness innovative new ideas for the good of the wider community. This is a great opportunity for participants to learn something new, enjoy making things with like-minded people and use their skills to enrich the lives of others and improve the place they live in.”

Stockport Hackathon has been organised to celebrate the launch of the Council’s new website and online services. It is part of a series of fun digital activities and learning opportunities across Stockport.

There are just a few days left to apply for a free place – find out more at www.digitalstockport.info/hackathon.
