Council to utilise Amazon Echo technology

Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) has had its innovative and commercial approach to digital transformation approved.

The five-year plan called ‘Connected Knowledge’, focuses on ensuring customers continue to have the best possible experience, by providing a digital programme that’s more efficient, flexible and better value for money.

The council was one of the first to adopt a cloud IT strategy, saving around £6m in the process. Connected Knowledge sees its digital systems evolve further, working towards fully integrated and connected transactions for customers.

The strategy includes the use of Amazon Echo technology, developed with Arcus Global – AVDC’s development partner – AVDC will become the first council in the UK to use AI (artificial intelligence) and AI powered voice control, to serve residents’ needs.

Andrew Grant, AVDC’s Chief Executive said: “Our robust Connected Knowledge strategy will ensure we’re using the right digital approach and technology, as we become an increasingly commercial council. This will make us more flexible and efficient, ensuring we continue to put customers at the heart of what we do. By committing to this plan we are ensuring the future happens for us, not to us.”

AVDC worked with Eduserv, a not for profit IT provider, to clarify its needs and develop the realistic, deliverable business plan and supporting IT strategy.

Cllr Janet Blake, AVDC’s Cabinet Member for Business Transformation commented: “Here at AVDC we are continuing to rethink the way local government operates and this exciting digital programme demonstrates our commitment to providing residents with the best possible service, while embracing the latest technology.”
