Manchester's digital development gathers pace

Investment in city's digital infrastructure follows announcement of new digital partnership

Business Growth Hub has announced a partnership with Creative England and The Landing to boost support for Greater Manchester’s digital, creative and technology SMEs.

Led by Business Growth Hub, the new partnership, which is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will offer SMEs within the sector help to develop products and access new supply chains and markets.

Creative England is a creative industries accelerator that invests in, champions and nurtures creative talent and companies in film, TV, games and digital media, while The Landing is a technology enterprise hub that offers market-leading facilities, including usability testing labs and post production, along with office space, co-working, events and business support.

Ian MacArthur, Business Growth Hub’s head of sectors programme said: “With the rapid acceleration of the digital, creative and technology industries in today’s marketplace and the abundance of creative talent in Greater Manchester, the need for a comprehensive support structure to drive innovation is more important than ever.

“These partnerships offer an extraordinary wealth of knowledge and experience, giving businesses the platform to innovate and succeed in this vibrant sector. It is an exciting time to be a part of the digital, creative, and tech space and I look forward to seeing what businesses in Greater Manchester can achieve with the extensive support they now have available to them.”

 

Investment in city infrastructure

The announcement of the partnership was followed by news that the Manchester Growth Company is aiming to upgrade the digital infrastructure for the city’s Business Growth Hub.

A prior information notice for a single framework contract for the delivery of the second stage of its transformation project has been published, following the award of £1m in funding by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to improve the digital offer to companies across the city by March 2017.

The Authority says the initial contract will last for five months but could be extended. The investment will be split into several projects within a digital transformation programme, aimed at providing unified data integration across all platforms to increase the efficiency and flexibility in Hub services.
