In this video, taken at the Wuthering Bytes IT Festival, Keynote speaker Tariq Rashid, an IT pioneer at the Home Office, raps about the benefits of open source frameworks for public sector bodies.
Addressing two major issues
He thinks that public sector digital strategies target two urgent problems – the effectiveness of services, and their cost. Open source, open standards, open data are, in his opinion, key to fixing these and he explains how open technology naturally supports the way digital services need to be designed, built and iterated.
In his address, Tariq says: “I’ve come to the conclusion having worked building and developing digital services and assessing them that it’s a culture; a mindset. It’s a mindset that puts users at the beginning, the middle and the end – at the centre – of everything we do.”
