Gloucester City Council and Civica – a company specialising in software, technology and outsourcing services – have extended their pioneering partnership delivering revenues, benefits and services for the authority.
It is thought that additional savings of £100,000 will be delivered during the three year extension period.
The original seven-year agreement started in October 2011, and has already provided in excess of £200,000 per year in savings to the Council. It has also increased the Council’s collection of Council Tax and “speed of processing benefits claims”.
It is hoped that the extension to October 2021 will see the partnership continue to enhance services and create new jobs in the city.
Civica has reportedly created a service centre with the Council, which is providing services to almost 50 local authorities across the UK.
The company currently supplies over 90 per cent of the UK’s local authorities, providing IT systems and business process expertise to 175 local government revenues and benefits departments.
‘Improved services and additional savings’
Councillor David Norman, cabinet member for Performance and Resources at Gloucester City Council, has said that he is happy the council will be prolonging its partnership with Civica.
“The Civica revenues & benefits partnership has been a success for Gloucester City Council. It demonstrates how a public-private partnership can help local authorities achieve savings whilst continuing to deliver an excellent service to the residents of Gloucester. I am pleased we will be continuing this partnership arrangement,” he said.
Simon Downing, chief executive of Civica, also commented on the extension.
“Local authorities continue to face the challenge of delivering greater efficiencies in response to tightening budgets, meaning service innovation is key,” he said, adding:
“We look forward to continuing the successful partnership with Gloucester City Council and delivering improved services and additional savings.”
