Privacy officer role created for GOV.UK Verify

The Government Digital Service (GDS) has announced that it has created a new Privacy officer role, which will be responsible for making sure GOV.UK Verify satisfies all privacy requirements and user expectations.

The Government Digital Service (GDS) has announced that it has created a new Privacy officer role, which will be responsible for making sure GOV.UK Verify satisfies all privacy requirements and user expectations.

Acting as a main point of contact for decisions affecting the use of personal data, the new role will “manage the dialogue between developers at GDS, GOV.UK Verify users, certified companies and departments providing services via GOV.UK Verify”.

It was revealed in a GOV.UK blog post that the new officer will work closely with the independent Privacy & Consumer Advisory Group, consulting it on “privacy-related developments” and communicating their advice to the GDS.

GOV.UK Verify is an identity assurance platform, providing a new way to prove who you are online so that you can make the most of government services in a secure way.

The GDS has been building privacy management functions around it that will show users their data is being handled properly.

Between now and the new role being filled, the identity assurance programme’s independent privacy advisor Toby Stevens will be handling privacy matters.
