Highways England has launched an online exhibition to provide members of the public additional information and a preview of the new ‘smart motorway’ on the M1 in Northamptonshire.
The area between junctions 16 and 19 is set to be upgraded with new technologies and initiatives to improve motorway use.
The hard shoulder will be converted to a traffic lane, in addition signs and technologies will inform drivers of variable speed limits and alert them of any incidents.
Ahead of the work, which is due to begin in the autumn, a virtual exhibition is being unveiled to allow members of the public to view and comment on the prospective work, the service will be available to the public until the end of November.
Asad Khan, Highways England project lead, said: “We are very pleased to have launched our interactive web-based digital public exhibition today.
“We believe this will be a much more convenient and innovative way to inform road users, the local community and our stakeholders about the construction work and its possible implications, for both those living close to the motorway and those using the motorway on a regular basis.”
