Moray Council saves £100,000 from online staff training tool

Moray Council saved around £100,000 in the last year by using online training for its staff which delivers modules through the cloud, covering subjects such as equality law and data protection legislation.

Moray Council saved around £100,000 in the last year by using online training for its staff.

The council identified frequent and recurring training needs from updated legislation or new skills for staff.

Under the older system training was delivered in classroom conditions as staff took time away from their normal working duties with a supervising member of staff to manage the training, with the new online system employees can access learning online remotely at any time.

The system, nicknamed ‘Clive’, delivers modules through the cloud covering subjects such as equality law and data protection legislation, in addition to training for report writing and handling customer complaints.

Clive allows employees who do not use a computer as part of their day-to-day duties or who have no time in the day to log in and access online training at their convenience.

For those who do not have computer access the council is still providing classroom training for certain subjects.

The council records all of the training and using the online tool individuals can produce a certificate or evidence of study to support formal training or a vocational programme.

A council spokesman said: “The council’s employee development team are continuously developing staff skills to improve performance for the public.

Training programmes are developed to meet the needs of services and our wider corporate objectives.

Clive has so far reduced the council’s training bill by £95,000 a year in staff time.”
