The Marine Management Organisation has extended its capabilities to process marine policy documents online and redesigned its website as the department overhauls its online services.

The department, which is sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and is the official body for licensing and planning all marine activities in for England and Wales, has made several changes to its interactive Marine Information System.

These include a gateway to access marine plans as they are developed across England’s marine area, and a multi-layer Geographical Information System based mapping information tool, allowing a locally focussed search of activities and resources and including display of marine licensing data.

Additionally, the department has refreshed its website layout so that all marine plans and policies can be displayed, integrated a ‘policy check tool’ so that users can search for marine plan policies in a specific area.

All of these features will be accessible using mobile and tablet devices according to the MMO, which has said it is open to feedback from users of the new systems and is welcoming any suggestions for user improvements.
