GDS to use Box cloud data storage platform

The Government Digital Service has approved the cloud content-sharing and collaboration service from Box as a provider of choice, allowing the platform to be used across all government departments.

The Government Digital Service has approved the cloud content-sharing and collaboration service from Box as a provider of choice, allowing the platform to be used across all government departments.

The decision comes after a security and compliance assessment as the GDS looks to enhance its file and data sharing, to improve collaboration between those working remotely and those in the office.

Box is currently being used in some UK government departments, through the government’s G-Cloud marketplace; however, the approval from the GDS will allow the platform to be rolled-out across the entire public sector.

David Quantrell, Box senior vice president and general manager of EMEA said: “Technology has advanced dramatically and new ways of working can mean legacy IT solutions are not always suitable for today’s government, which often needs to manage critical content easily and securely from anywhere and on any device.”

The GDS is a pioneer in deploying innovative technology and as it expands its collaboration portfolio it is encouraging wider cross-government cooperation.”
