Woking Borough Council unveils plans to transform the town into “Surrey’s leading digital town” to support local residents, visitors and businesses with improved digital services.

The council will continue to work in partnership with its existing technology supplier EMCOR UK and service provider Arcom IT.

The project will tap into the town’s already active fibre network and data centre to provide increased Wi-Fi and digital services to other areas of the town.

New access to high-speed Wi-Fi will be delivered to local shopping centres, the HG Wells conference and events centre and businesses in the town centre, before the service is expanded in the future.

John Kingsbury, leader of Woking Borough Council said: “Our aspiration is to see Woking become Surrey’s leading digital town.

This exciting project will set the bar high in delivering unparalleled digital connectivity… to both visitors and local businesses.”

John Kovacs, network solutions general manager at EMCOR UK, said: “We are proud to be working with Woking Borough Council and Arcom IT on the design and implementation of this exciting project.

Once complete, consumers and businesses will have access to one of the most modern, and wide-reaching, high speed wi-fi network coverage in the UK.”
