Government grant to upgrade council websites

North Warwickshire Borough Council and Nuneaton & Bedworth Council will use a government grant to improve their websites, develop digital services and encourage more residents to get online.

Two councils will use a government grant to improve their websites, develop online services and encourage more residents to get online.

North Warwickshire Borough Council and Nuneaton & Bedworth Council have collectively been awarded £25,000 from the government to improve their website services.

The two councils are to receive a portion of a total £390,000 from the Local Government Association’s (LGA) Digital Experts programme, which has been made available to 27 local authorities.

The partnership between the two councils is long-standing and enables them to share website design and content whilst dividing costs.

They plan to use the funds to adapt current services to meet the increased demand for digital services on tablets and smartphones.

Alan Franks, managing director at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said: “Our aim is to make our website more responsive, easier to use and usable on a variety of devices including smartphones.”

Linda Bird, assistant director of corporate services at North Warwickshire Borough Council, added: “We plan to work together to improve our websites so that they are easier to use on phones and tablets.

We also plan to increase our use of social media and involve our Contact Centre staff more in online advice for customers.”

The improvements are set to go live by the autumn of this year.
