Almost a third of NHS Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups currently do not have a governance strategy in place, according to a new report.

The survey report, carried out by eShare, also found that over half of those who are currently without a governance strategy have no immediate plans to introduce one.

However, the survey – which targeted 209 respondents across the NHS sector – found that over half of those who are currently without a governance strategy have no immediate plans to introduce one.

Moreover, 57% of respondents believe that by implementing digital governance, they will reduce costs for the Trust in the long term.

The study also found that whilst over half of participants use software to manage governance in their organisation, the majority of participants (79%) do not have one solution for all of their governance tasks, such as risk assessment and meeting management.

Alister Esam, Founder, BoardPacks commented: “..it is alarming to note that 30% of respondents currently lack a governance strategy altogether.

“There are technologies available that can help make the growing mountain of data and information that boards face more accessible. Moving meeting papers, documents and decisions online, securely accessible on a tablet, in a structured format is an approach that many boards are taking.

“Introducing new technology into the workplace need not be as daunting as it sounds; in fact 34% of participants stated over 75% of their board members already could have access to governance software via tablet technology.”
