Southwark Council named finalist in LGC Awards 2015

The council has been shortlisted in the ‘Driving Efficiency Through Technology’ category for the work on its customer account ‘My Southwark’ and the ‘Commissioning Pioneer’ category.

Southwark Council has been shortlisted for two accolades in this year’s Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2015. The LGC Awards are held annually to recognise the work of local governments through several different categories of excellence and achievement.

The council has been shortlisted in the ‘Driving Efficiency Through Technology’ category for the work on its customer account ‘My Southwark’. This award category recognises a council that has successfully devised a new system that brings about behaviour change and meets the goal of creating a more efficient authority.

It has also been shortlisted in the ‘Commissioning Pioneer’ category, for a joint ambition alongside Lambeth and Lewisham Councils to transform the way residents with complex needs move from benefits and in to work. This award category highlights how a collaborative approach has greatly influenced a council-wide scheme or work to a particular service area.

Councillor Fiona Colley, Cabinet Member for Finance, Strategy and Performance said, “I am delighted that Southwark Council has been shortlisted in two categories in this year’s LGC Awards as it recognises the Council as a frontrunner in innovation, and highlights some of the fantastic work carried out by our staff.

“Our work on ‘My Southwark’ has gone from strength to strength since its initial launch in 2012. At the end of September 2014 more than 80,000 people had registered for an account, with 36,000 linking to a revenues and benefits account, showcasing the support the ‘My Southwark’ project has also received from our residents.”

“Our collaborative work with Lambeth and Lewisham Council targets our most vulnerable residents who are still finding it challenging to access work. Our joint ambition ensures that our residents have the skills and motivation to be able to secure work through personalised support.”

Winners of all the awards will be announced at the LGC Awards 2015 ceremony on Wednesday 11th March at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
