UK Veterans website completes move to gov.uk

The Veterans UK website this week has completed its move to gov.uk with aspects of the existing site archived and nearly all content moved to the gov.uk domain.

The Veterans UK website this week has completed its move to gov.uk with aspects of the existing site archived and nearly all content moved to the gov.uk domain.

Any saved links and website addresses will automatically redirect uses to the new gov.uk website if appropriate or else to the archived section of the old website.

The move is part of the government’s digital strategy of centralising all online information and services.

Specifically for Veterans UK, the move is hoped to facilitate online applications for Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS), Armed Forces Pensions Scheme (AFPS) and War Pension Scheme (WPS).

In addition, the gov.uk site will “improve visibility of veterans’ information to a much wider audience”, including specialised software to allow improved accessibility for disabled users and compatibility with mobile devices for on-the-move access.

The Veterans UK will have its own unique web address – www.GOV.UK/veterans-uk to improve direct access and in-site navigation easier for users.

Content from the old site that has been transferred has been reviewed and in some instances re-written to fit the gov.uk house-style, these changes have been made in consultation with users and guided by research.

The government statement assured that these changes were undertaken to “make the information clearer without altering the message”.
