DBS developing new digital systems

Users will be able to apply online for DBS checks through a new web portal which will be simple to use. Web chat will be a feature of the portal and they will receive text messages about the progress of their applications.

The Disclosure and Barring Service is developing new digital systems to make customer journey easier and turnaround times quicker. This is driven by its three year strategic plan and desire to become Government’s Centre of Excellence for suitability information.

DBS wants to make sure its new system will give better access if you refer barring cases to us and/or make disclosure applications. It is designed to enhance the work we do to protect the public. The system will see them operating in a paperless environment and help them become digital by default in the way we work.

Users will be able to apply online for DBS checks through a new web portal which will be simple to use. Web chat will be a feature of the portal and they will receive text messages about the progress of their applications.

Barring referrals will be made online and people who have been referred will also be able to check on the progress of their case or make representations through the web. Referrers will also be able to engage with us in a much improved digital environment.

As well as the customer facing benefits DBS is also addressing a number of process based inefficiencies through the project. This means it will be able to turn applications around quicker and provide progress information along the way.

DBS plans to launch our new web portal next year in late spring for our barring services and late summer for disclosure.
