Salford City Council to stream meetings

City Mayor Ian Stewart said: "We are taking things one step further by videoing and live streaming open proceedings so more people can see how decisions are made."

Salford City Council is to live stream council meetings which are open to the public from September.

The move follows new government regulations allowing members of the public to film, photograph or make sound recordings of proceedings at council meetings.

City Mayor Ian Stewart said: “Members of the public have always been welcome to attend meetings to see how the council works – unless a motion is passed at the meeting to exclude members of the press and public because of confidential business.

“Now we are taking things one step further by videoing and live streaming open proceedings so more people can see how decisions are made.

“Members of the public may now also record open meetings, including meetings of the full council, the executive at cabinet, committees and sub-committees. We will be happy to facilitate this but do remind people that these are working meetings and any observers recording the meeting must not disrupt the meeting or hamper other members of the public’s ability to see, hear or record the meeting.
