Three has been crowned overall winner of the Mobile Broadband Road Trip Awards 2014.

Run jointly by Broadband Genie and PC Advisor the awards, now in their sixth year, put mobile internet services beneath the microscope under rigorous real-world conditions.

Three CTO Bryn Jones said “We want our customers to have a great experience wherever they are and whatever they are doing. The Broadband Genie Road Trip Awards capture real-life experience of mobile users, so it is really encouraging to see we’ve won every category.

“Our network is helping our customers get the most out of their devices, whether that is streaming media or just browsing the internet and we’re investing and improving every day to make sure it stays that way.”

Travelling between London and Edinburgh the UK’s four mobile networks were set a series of tasks replicating typical usage. For the first time the Road Trip put both 3G and 4G devices through their paces using two from each network. Overall, results were well up on 2013.

PC Advisor Editor Jim Martin said “Mobile broadband has come a long way since last year’s Road Trip. Our testing found that the new technology deployed by networks isn’t just limited to the lab, it’s having a positive impact which makes mobile internet faster and more useful for everyone.”

“This year’s Road Trip had some of the best results we’ve ever seen”, said Broadband Genie editor Matt Powell. “Not only is 4G delivering a great mobile internet experience there’s also been an improvement in 3G performance. Three in particular stood out as its 3G was faster than all other services.”
