A new way to help patients engage with their personal healthcare and promote digital health tools has been launched by Nottingham North & East Clinical Commissioning Group in partnership with Looking Local.
Nottingham North & East has become the first CCG to launch the My Health smartphone app, allowing patients to find out about local healthcare provision, and access accredited apps from the NHS App Store.
Samantha Walters, Chief Officer at Nottingham North and East CCG says:
“We’re excited to launch this free app and hope it will help people get up-to-date information about local health care services quickly and easily. We plan to develop it further and work with clinicians and patients in our area to support the integration of online appointment booking and a dedicated section for children’s healthcare needs.”
My Health is a flexible app solution, which allows CCGs, health boards and surgeries to deliver an app that reflects their patient needs, with access to national health services including NHS Choices and NHS 24. To begin with Nottingham North & East is giving patients access to local surgery information, the NHS Symptom Checker, health news and advice as well as information from The Money Advice Service and Universal Credit.
The key to My Health is that it can link to NHS accredited apps and mobile-optmised services that can help patients understand their health in more detail and promote self-care. The NHS App Store has accredited a range of apps and mobile services covering many health arenas from diet, exercise and wellbeing to specific conditions, as well as mental health, stopping smoking, sexual health and managing alcohol consumption.
In addition to the app, the partnership with Looking Local enables Nottingham North & East CCG deliver patient information and services on a range of digital channels including Sky, Virgin, games consoles, within Facebook and on mobile web for both mobile and tablet access.
Working on the widest range of digital channels and increasing the number health services and tools available will help patient access relevant and useful information on their digital device of choice and realise a range benefits.
