The director of the government’s online procurement platform has admitted it’s struggling to reach local authorities, in a blog post.
G-Cloud director, Tony Singleton, said in his personal blog: “It’s important for us to keep talking about how we are taking G-Cloud forward and how it will transform the experience of public sector buyers and their suppliers for the better.”
Singleton said G-Cloud needed to “help buyers to understand” how G-Cloud can save them both time and money. He said a “clearer” guide in how to use G-Cloud had been published, and that further advice and help on “the major issues that buyers raise with us” would also be published.
He also highlighted how greater awareness of the service needed to be spread across the public sector and commented about seeking security accreditation for the service to boost confidence in the marketplace.
“G-Cloud has the potential to reach an estimated 30,000 buyers across the public sector. Yet research carried out by the 6 Degree Group suggests that nearly 90 percent of local authorities have not heard of G-Cloud,” added Singleton.
In an attempt to win over customers and improve, G-Cloud purged around 100 services earlier this year, as they didn’t meet quality thresholds.
“This new digital marketplace will be built entirely around user needs and will meet the Digital by Default Service Standard,” he concluded.
