DGS "provisionally investigates" working with HM Passports Office

After announcements were made regarding the shelving of the criminal record check exemplar as a digital by default service, the Government Digital Service (GDS) is now reportedly 'provisionally investigating working with HM Passports Office' as they consider making passports a new exemplar digital service.

After announcements were made regarding the shelving of the criminal record check exemplar as a digital by default service, the Government Digital Service (GDS) is now reportedly ‘provisionally investigating working with HM Passports Office’ as they consider making passports a new exemplar digital service.

Due to the ‘nature of the contracts with the incumbent supplier‘, the GDS explained that: ‘there would be more opportunity to effect transformational change by March 2015 via another service’ aka passports.

Moving passport applications entirely online was an aim of the last Labour government, but the idea was moved back after the terrorist attacks of 2001.
