New govt web portal helps suppliers plan ahead

The portal is interactive and allows suppliers access to the government’s Construction Pipeline data to allow them to plan ahead.

Cabinet Office minister, Chloe Smith, has claimed that details for GBP 109 billion worth of future government construction projects have been published on a new web portal in a bid to help suppliers plan ahead and invest in and grow their business. The portal contains information on proposed government constructions projects up to 2020 and beyond, and it is hoped that the launch of the portal will enable procurement officers to buy and manage government goods and services more efficiently.

The portal is interactive and allows suppliers access to the government’s Construction Pipeline data to allow them to plan ahead. The pipeline is reviewed every six months to keep it accurate. Latest updates include GBP 3.3 billion in funding for 165,000 affordable homes over the next three years, GBP 370 million for flood defences, and GBP 40 billion for the HS2 project.

Smith said: “We know that being transparent about opportunities available in the public sector is exactly what suppliers need to start looking at their business, investing and boosting their capabilities. Regularly updating this information and providing construction suppliers with much earlier visibility of future opportunities within government gives UK business the knowledge they need to plan, get ahead of the game and grow. With more than £109 billion worth of future public construction contracts now up for grabs from now to 2020 and beyond, we are reinforcing our long-term commitment to rebalance the economy and help Britain get ahead in the global race.”
