In hopes of improving health literacy in the country, NHS England wants to train 100,000 people in basic online skills and has issued a tender for this worth between £200,000 and £2m. The plan comes under NHS England’s commitment in 2013/14 and 2015/16 to reduce inequalities.
According to the tender: “In order to drive and support the delivery of this commitment, NHS England requires a new arrangement for the provision of management agent services, to include management, promotion and development services, to pilot a range of initiatives to support getting people online, so they can benefit from the opportunities of the digital revolution in health.”
Management services will include coordinating a network of online training centres; managing the delivery of online training; handling the funds; engaging with users as well as looking after promotion and marketing.
The contract is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) and will end on 31 March 2014. There will be an option to extend for a further two years on an annual basis.
