Govt wants to update online planning and building regulations resource

The Communities and Local Government department is looking for commercial partners for its Planning Portal, the government's online planning and building regulations resource for England and Wales.

The Communities and Local Government department is looking for commercial partners for its Planning Portal, the government’s online planning and building regulations resource for England and Wales.

According to the department it is “undertaking an initial round of bidding, to inform its view of best options for the future” of the portal.

“We are seeking partners who can demonstrate that they can effectively deliver the core services of the current portal, while identifying opportunities for future growth through new added value services, improved technology and greater innovation,” says the government’s Contracts Finder website.

In a statement, planning minister Nicholas Boles has said: “There is huge potential to take the Planning Portal to the next level and provide a tool for both homeowners and businesses, including generating benefits from the data that it holds.

“We have built a business that is well run and has a strong brand but now is the time to look for investment for the site to fulfil its full potential. We are committed to improving the portal and bringing in external expertise is the best way to ensure the site works at its very best in the future.”
