The Post Office, which has 11,800 outlets nationwide, has collaborated in a project to create a database of all internet related courses available in the country and has also  launched a service where it gives people free lists of the nearest public internet access and training points to where they live.

According to  Post Office chief executive Paula Vennells, “It is a real disadvantage being excluded from the better deals and offers only available online. There are also social exclusion aspects such as keeping in touch with friends and family to help combat loneliness and isolation. We are well placed to take on this role, serving around 20 million customers a week.”

Last November, report titled “This is for everyone” by Go ON UK found that more than 16 million people in the UK lack basic online skills.
