According to localgov.co.uk, children’s services teams in Cheshire East Council and East Cheshire NHS Trust have been working on a specially developed social media website in a bid to generate innovative ideas for improving services. The scheme, dubbed ‘Patient and Family Echo’ works to make sure that families receive consistent advice, reduce needless visits that duplicate services and improve communications.

The scheme is supported by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and looks to crowd-source ideas from staff from the council and the health trust which are shared anonymously. They can then comment and vote to decide which ideas would work best. Anonymity aims to give all ideas equal standing, and ensure that each idea is considered regardless of seniority.

Speaking about the scheme, East Cheshire NHS Trust health visitor team leader Andrea Johns said: “It’s such a powerful medium and it’s bought everyone together to better represent the needs of patients and most importantly deliver extra visits to the right people at the right time for them. Together through Echo the council and the trust have hidden the wiring between themselves in delivering children’s services.”
