Most local councils prefer ‘BYOD’ over desktop computers

A survey by Intrinsic Technology has found that over half of the country’s local authorities are opting for a ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) strategy for their staff as opposed to buying desktop computers.

“The desktop computer is no longer suited to the way local governments consume their IT”

A survey by Intrinsic Technology has found that over half of the country’s local authorities are opting for a ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) strategy for their staff as opposed to buying desktop computers. This can be at least partially attributed to the fact that Adobe is moving its applications to the cloud and so they don’t need to be physically stored on a computer.

According to CEO at Intrinsic Technology Adam Jarvis: “The desktop computer had a good run, but it’s simply not suited to the way local governments consume their IT. Employees don’t want to be tied down to their desks, and the IT department doesn’t want to undergo costly and time-consuming software refreshes.
