The Caerphilly County Borough Council in Southern Wales, along with its partners, has managed to help 2,500 of its citizens get the skills to use the internet as part of its Get Caerphilly Online campaign and has included a ‘Digital Fridays’ drop-in event at libraries as part of its support sessions.

According to the campaign’s website: “The ‘Digital Inclusion’ agenda is about improving people’s lives; helping people to communicate more easily, purchase goods for lower prices, and about being able to access public services more easily. Digital inclusion is also about reducing social isolation.”

Craig Clark, a Get Caerphilly Online Officer, said: “Getting online has many benefits including saving money, learning, communicating more easily and finding a job… We have quite a number of people coming to us for support around the changes to the benefit system at the moment and the introduction of Universal Jobmatch.

Get Caerphilly Online is a partnership between ‘Come Surf With Me Caerphilly’ (supported by the Welsh Government ‘Communities 2.0’ programme); ‘Get IT Together’ a local project run by BT and Citizens Online; and the Caerphilly County Borough Council.
