Gov.uk, the government’s new website which replaced Directgov as a single domain for all government departments and was built by the Government Digital Service, has won in the digital category of Designs of the Year 2013, beating 14 other nominees including the Raspberry Pi computer and the Windows Phone 8

The website was launched in October last year as part of the government’s digital strategy to cut costs by moving transactions online. Government departments are one by one being adding to this single domain.

According to digital designer Nicolas Roope, who was on the judging panel, Gov.uk had “created a design that is inclusive for all”.

An overall winner from all design categories, including architecture and fashion, will be announced on 16th April during a ceremony held at the South Place Hotel in London.
