What police cars of the future could look like
Following a challenge set by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) to incorporate latest technology into current police cars, the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer was fitted with three computers and other software, including crime reporting system Facewatch.
Features of the car included cameras that record activity around the vehicle; CCTV footage from the car that can be streamed and uploaded to Facewatch; other crimes reported around the country can be accessed; as well as software that can predict future crime hotspots.
According to Dick Ellam, Vauxhall’s special vehicles manager: “This British-built and converted Astra Sports Tourer will help make police officers more efficient. It becomes their office and allows them to spend more time on the road fighting crime.”
Simon Gordon, chairman of Facewatch, said that “I am sure that Facewatch integrated and working together with the other breakthrough tech in the car will make a significant contribution to making all our communities safer.”
