70 apps are available, such as Patient Access Mobile and HealthFabric.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt launched a library of health apps at the Healthcare Innovation Expo 2013, aimed to help citizens find trusted apps to help them manage their health and provide them access to advice and online services. Currently, 70 apps are available, 10 of them having been launched at the expo, and the library will continually be updated.

Examples of apps include Patient Access Mobile, allowing patients to book GP appointments and repeat prescriptions via mobile phones; as well as HealthFabric which is for patients with long term conditions like dementia.

Hunt will also be launching London’s new centre of innovation excellence at the event, with investment from US healthcare firm Johnson & Johnson. According to Hunt: “I want to give doctors and nurses the time and space to deliver patient centred care – to do this we need to innovate.”
