“Embracing technological change”

Research by the NHS Confederation’s Mental Health Network has revealed that technology like smartphone apps and online platforms can help treat mental health issues but for this to work national action will be required, such as the development of a framework for e-mental health.

According to the report, mobile phone apps can help track changes in patients’ mood, online platforms can be used for peer support while computerised monitoring systems can enable people to get support.

Rebecca Cotton, acting deputy director of the Mental Health Network has said that “exploring how technology can help deliver that in mental health services is really important… People expect the NHS to keep up with the pace of modern life – and that means embracing technological change.”
