Fire risk assessment tool launched after successful Hertfordshire pilot

RISCAuthority launches a fire damage risk assessment tool after a successful pilot involving Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The pilot covered 30 fire stations and 13,500 postcodes

Risk Insight, Strategy and Control Authority (RISCAuthority) has launched a fire damage risk assessment tool that allows users to select a timeframe and see which areas can be reached by a fire service within that time on an interactive map, after a successful pilot study involving Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The pilot covered 30 fire stations and 13,500 postcodes, which meant it could make over 36 million calculations. RISCAuthority wants to extend the tool to eight more fire authorities by spring 2013, and go nationwide soon after that.

The tool has been developed by RISCAuthority, an organisation that advises the insurance industry on fire and security risk, together with the Fire Protection Association (FPA), using products from MapMechanics.
