Westminster wants to extend parking trial to 10-35,000 bays
Westminster City Council is currently running a pilot to improve congestion in London’s West End - using sensor technology and data analytics - in 200 parking spaces; it now wants to extend the trial to between 10,000 and 35,000 spaces which could cost up to GBP 15 million.
“We have to evaluate the pilot program thoroughly”
Westminster City Council is currently running a pilot to improve congestion in London’s West End via a mobile app, using sensor technology and data analytics, in 200 parking spaces; it now wants to extend the trial to between 10,000 and 35,000 spaces which could cost up to GBP 15 million.
The trial uses infra-red sensors to detect whether a car is parked in a spot or not; it then relays this information in real-time to a database and to a mobile app for drivers.
According to a spokesman for Westminster City Council: “We have to evaluate the pilot program thoroughly before making any final decisions. We expect to complete that process before the end of the year.”
