Southwark Council has signed a four-year contract with support service provider Capita, procured via the Government’s Buying Solutions framework, for the management and upgrade of all IT facilities that support the delivery of council services, which will benefit both residents and staff members as well as enable the council to save up to GBP 76 million over three years.

Capita is to deliver nine projects in the first year which will give the council a platform to transform many of its services, including modernising its desktop and making use of mobile devices secure.

According to Richard Livingstone, cabinet member for resources at Southwark Council: “This contract gives us cost savings and an improved IT service at a time when resources are extremely limited… We expect a smooth transformation to a new, modernised IT infrastructure and, ultimately more resilient and responsive IT.”
