Government Digital Service (GDS) believes that one of the problems faced by local governments in providing its citizens with digital services is finding a way to verify their identity and it recently published a report to review the issue.

The report found that a number of local authorities want to collaborate with the GDS Identity Assurance Programme which would improve user experience and enable local authorities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

“They are also keen that their plans are scalable and align with the national approach.  This will ensure that LAs don’t have to re-engineer solutions in the future,” said GDS on its website.

The government has also recently announced that it is looking to finalise eight supplies to provide users of public services with ways to verify their identities online.
