Local council launches YouTube channel to inform residents

Warwickshire County Council has launched a new YouTube service that allows residents to access news and information on local council services.

Warwickshire council claims to be the first local authority to provide such a service

Warwickshire County Council has launched a new YouTube service that allows residents to access news and information on local council services.

The one minute video clips will be short, informative pieces with updates from departments like road works, online library services and firework safety. Warwickshire council claims to be the first local authority to provide such a service, according to a report by Government Computing.

A council spokesman said that the service could prove very useful in times of emergency, enabling the council to reach residents during events such as heavy snowfalls or road closures. He revealed that the service had received over 1,000 views in its first week.

The service is being supplied by online video content editor Reel Contact for approximately £1,000 a month and was launched on the 17th October.

Describing the process of developing the videos, the council spokesman said: “At 9am I will send ReelContent some content and by 10am they send back a script. We then agree the script and by 2pm the company will put the video online.”
