Unistats sources data from UCAS and the National Student Survey

Unistats, a website created in line with the government’s ‘digital by default’ agenda that compares information about university courses in the UK – including cost, employment rates and student satisfaction – has been re-launched by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

The website contains information from all UK university course page, and also uses official data from the National Student Survey, UCAS and other government sources.

HEFCE says it used researched on what students want to know most when deciding what university to decide on Key Information Sets – “essential statistics that students care about”.

This is a great example of a government website that supports new government policies. It uses technology to improve the lives of the public by simplifying large amounts of data and enabling students to make more informed choices,” said Julian Mitchell, client director at Eduserv, the public sector IT specialist that helped with the website.

According to Eduserv, the challenge was to find the best way to display the data collected and present it in a form that was easy to understand and compare, with which it used the help of design agency Fluent Interactive.

Unistats provides free and open access to its data. Developers can embed information in their own sites or applications in real time.
