The Foreign Office, which already uses Twitter and Facebook to deliver services like human rights reporting and issuing travel advice, has said it wants to “go further” to embrace digital technology and social media as part of a new digital strategy in line with the government’s ‘digital by default’ agenda.

Adam Bye, Foreign Office digital transition leader, wrote a blog where he explained that he wanted to use technology to help the Office “work more effectively and deliver more effectively for UK citizens”.

The focus of this strategy is to see what services can be provided digitally, “both to improve services and so we can focus on those most in need of individual help – for example British nationals in trouble” as well as to “enhance core areas of our diplomatic work, including monitoring international developments”.

The blog also added that they wanted input from citizens with a promise to “read every suggestion and comment on some of those that most inspire us.”
