Digital businesses showcase their projects to government bodies

Nine SMEs were invited to tell government bodies about their successful projects to help them in meeting the government's target of spending 25% of funds on SME business.

Digital businesses like SkyScape spoke about their successful projects

Nine SMEs were invited to meet with members of 13 government bodies to speak about the digital product/service that they delivered. The event, run by Government Digital Service (GDS), took place in London on September 17th.

GDS is working on meeting the government’s target of spending 25% of Central Government procurement funds on SME business by the end of the current Parliament in 2015. The event allowed companies that have delivered projects already to demonstrate their value and to speak to the government about the digital service provision industry.

GDS has said that the projects – delivered by companies such as Sirius IT, Skyscape and Helpful Technology – demonstrated the ideal elements of what is needed in delivering digital/product services to government, these include: adopting a user centric approach; the use of agile methodologies – early release and iterate; open source and open standard solutions; and the limited use of lengthy commercial arrangements or proprietary software to ‘tie in’ customers

GDS have announced plans to hold similar events in the future.
