Following a trial run by the Suffolk County Council, young mobile app developers will be offered free access to Weejot.com, the application publishing platform from software company Jadu.

Weejot allows users, whether technical or non-technical, to create and publish mobile apps, without the need for approval through app stores, using HTML5 and JavaScript.

The Suffolk County Council trial run was held in June, which led to 17 year-old Woodbridge School pupil Tom O’Brian being offered a job with Jadu over the summer, after he built an app to provide information about school closures in the event of emergencies.

Suffolk Council subscribed to a paid-for Weejot.com mobile app publishing service from Jadu using the Government’s new G-Cloud Cloudstore.

Jadu wants to “put mobile web app development on the curriculum and on the map” by encouraging the use of Weejot for teaching ICT.
